Does anyone have any advise for acute bronchitis? (Viral chest infection) I've had the most awful cough for over 2 weeks now and I'm just so sick of it 😭 have a constant need to cough no matter where I am and a pain in my chest. My throat gets sore also. I've tried 3 or 4 different cough bottles (bronco stop, exputex and benelyn cough serup) none of them do anything!! I've also just finished a course of antibiotics and steroids although I have 2 more days of antibiotics left (I'm well aware that what I have it viral and they won't do much) I thought at the very least they would help with the chest pain. The cough is so f**king annoying and getting worse!!!!!!!!!!!! Please tell me there's something out there to help a cough

When I had this Broncho Stop and Night Nurse helped me, so did the antibiotics.

I had this over Christmas and it was horrific - my chest was bubbling and my throat felt like it was made of broken glass.

I would dissolve a teaspoon of Vicks vapo rub in a bowl of hot water and put my face over it with a tea towel over my head. It only really gave temporary relief but was v soothing.

Difflam spray also helped the throat, along with regular pain relief. I knocked myself out with Night Nurse but obv that’s not a long term solution.

I also bought a cheap handheld nebuliser and some saline pods from Amazon which helped a bit.

Hope you feel better soon!

Vicks is supposed to be genuinely effective, apparently it's the eucalyptus oil

I would perhaps see if you can get a gp appt and try a ventolin inhaler to see if it helps. Sometimes they can. (If it works you'll feel proper relief about 10 mins later.)

Just to note, repeat reactions to coughs like this, and then progressing to infections led to adult asthma diagnosis for me

Did you notice it getting worse again after the steroids?

Sounds like me with an asthma exacerbation and I rely on a dual steroid and long acting bronchial dilator, with ventolin for acute attacks at nighttime whilst that's building up. It's the long acting bronchial dilator that seems to most help me (Fostair)
