DH has been under a gastroenterologist since 2015 for IBS issues, he had a capsule endoscopy back in 2017. He was seen probably every 4-6 months in clinic. 2020 hit, covid arrived and it turned into a telephone appointment every 6 months. He hasn't spoken to anyone since we guessed 2022. Symptoms have ramped up again, DH has called the gastroenterologists secretary today and it turns out his last appointment was in 2020, where it says a letter was sent to him advising he was being referred for additional tests. The secretary confirmed there is nothing else showing on his file than any referral has been done since then and no further appointments were arranged. The secretary is going to speak to the dr and call back however she did say he may need to ask his GP to do another referral. Does anyone know if they can do this? We have had no letters confirming he has been discharged, the secretary confirmed he hasn't been discharged. Are they allowed to do this?
I know DH should have chased it up a lot sooner than this however I do feel like the years have just rolled by, we have 2 children and life has genuinely got in the way. I have brought it up in the past and DH has always said he will chase it up however he never has. He does work a 50 hour week and is permanently exhausted (another symptom of IBS) so I get why he didn't get round to it. I'm not expecting him to be seen anytime soon but at the same time I don't see why he should be treated as new referral.
