Is it normal for anti biotics to cause stomach pain?

Just finished a 7 day course of doxycycline and nitrofurantoin and now onto azithromycin. My stomach was in bits whilst on doxy and so I went to the doctors as I couldn't fathom an anti biotic can cause this much pain and discomfort.
Now I started azithromycin today, I can't even sleep, I'm so incredibly uncomfortable, my stomach really hurts and I have such bad reflux. I'm more concerned about the stomach pain itself than the reflux though. Is it normal for anti biotics to make you feel this bad? Like I said, I just can't fathom that anti biotics can hurt my stomach like this, I really am not feeling great at all.

Just want to add, in regards to doxy, the doctor told me it is normal to have stomach pain with that but said azithromycin is generally more tolerated with less side effects and said I should start to feel a bit better when I start that one, but here I am, feeling ten times worse. I imagine it's because of how many I've had to take but I'm so uncomfortable. I have two days left of azithromycin

Holy moly, azithromycin gives me the absolute worst stomach/general abdomen pain. It's like shooting zapping pains throughout my intestines for a few hours after I've taken it and then it subsides to a dull ache.
I'm absolutely no use to you in regard to a remedy, I'm just letting you know I experience the same thing!

No thank you, this helps my anxiety with it tbh so I know it's kinda normal to do that. I've never experienced this much stomach pain from an anti biotic before

Ah! Seems is it normal then, how long did it take after finishing to feel normal again?

Can you take them after food so not going straight into an empty stomach?
(Not a medic but I have to do this with some meds to avoid stomach issues)

Sorry no idea, it was years ago. But I remember feeling in total agony.

Called 111 because the pain is bad, they said they want me to contact GP who could not see me about this today, called them back and they said they will get someone to call me and I just had a text to say speak to GP who is now closed. I give up. 🥲🥲 I just can't fathom how anti biotics can hurt your stomach this bad. It's so horribly painful. I doubt I will take the last two tablets tomorrow.
