My dad has been ill for a little while, very tired all the time(barely make it to lunch then has to go to bed for a while). He has had blood tests and chest x-rays and both have shown nothing. He does suffer with menieres (sp??) disease quite a lot. Nurse checked his ears and said they was fine, but since last thursday he has been getting extremley dizzy and a couple of times my mum has found him on the floor unable to get up, tho he says they are not menieres attacks.

We have all bee under quite a bit of stress recently and had put him being under the weather down to that, but now i'm not so sure.

Any advice??

Hi Wurly,
if the dizziness is from menieres or labyrithitis tends to be like the world spinning fast,if it's more fainting/lightheaded then likely to be something else. Think it needs to be looked into further so glad has gp appt, may need to try and bring it forward if he is continuing to end up on the floor. Did he have blood count, checks for diabetes etc done with the nurse?
Has he been depressed, not eating, losing weight or anything.
It may all be due to stressful time,is he normally fit and well?

he is normally very well, its normally us nagging his to slow down. Dizziness (from what my mum has said) is when he bends down, was putting shopping away last week, bent down and ended up on the floor unable to get up. The tiredness has been slowly creaping up on him for sometime.

That sounds a bit like his blood pressure dropping which can be quite common as you get older, what age is he?
Is he on any tablets for anything cos there are some that can cause this.
Make sure he gives doc full story, men often aren't too great at discussing their health probs
Hopefully gp will check blood pressure etc when he goes,if he seems to get worse at all over the next couple of days I would phone back and ask for a sooner appt

if it's when he bends down it could be benign positional vertigo - goes away after a while but some doctors prescribe exercises to help

weirdly I had this 8 years ago and then was diagnosed with meniere's last year - I'm pretty sure the two things have nothing to do with each other, just one of those bizarre coincidences
