Calf ache and twitching

I developed a bit of a dull ache in my right calf a few weeks ago. It’s still there on and off alongside occasional muscle twitches and pins and needles along my whole right lower leg. I’ve been getting a buzzing feeling in my heels too (again worse on my right side). It’s so strange. I’ve got myself worked up that I have MND which I know sounds ridiculous. I am very stressed anyway at the moment so maybe all anxiety related but it came out of the blue and the ache is definitely real.

My DH suggested sciatica but I don’t have any thigh or bottom pain? It’s all lower leg.

No tenderness or swelling etc so not concerned about DVT, also no change in muscle strength or balance. Have Gp appt in three weeks to discuss but I guess I’m looking for some reassurance in the meantime.

Thanks! :)

Possibly low Magnesium, low B12 or low Vitamin D.

I have the same, it's thought to be the sciatic nerve. My physio says it can present anywhere along the nerve and so doesn't always present with back pain.
However it does get worse when I am stressed so I am wondering if it is actually anxiety related or whether my muscles tightening when I am stressed triggers it.

Thanks @Blinky21 that’s really helpful. I assumed that sciatica pain would have to be all down the leg rather than just in calf so that’s good to know. It got worse yesterday so phoned the GP and they are seeing me next week. In the meantime I’m having a whole list of blood tests today to rule out deficiencies, check thyroid etc.

I’m wondering if my anxiety is making it worse now too, particularly the muscle twitching. Hope you feel better soon 🙂

Take a look at your vitamin and mineral levels.

I have had this since I was 12 years old! Constant calf twitches that get worse when I'm anxious, leading to cramping. I also get pins and needles in my right foot. It's definitely an anxiety symptom for me. Massage helps. I also take magnesium.

@Boombatty ah that’s interesting. Things have been very difficult this end for the last year so I wonder if anxiety is playing a major role. Thanks for sharing.

@Overtheatlantic and @EpicAlice thanks both for the recommendations. Having some blood tests today to check 🙂

Yes and of course the more you focus on it and worry about it, the worse it gets! Vicious circle.

Following up to see how you are doing now as I have something similar. Hope you are well recovered.
