Hi!

So, I tried to book a doctors appointment but they have nothing for weeks. Phoning at 8am to try and get one of the few daily appointments also isn't working...

So, these marks have been appearing over the past week or so. They are mostly on my stomach (but only on one side). There are a few others in random places dotted around (thigh, shoulder, lower back).

They don't hurt and aren't itchy. My daughter and partner have no marks, in case it's relevant, which suggests they aren't bites/contagious? I have already had chicken pox as a child..

Does anyone have any idea what they might be?

Are they all on one side of your body?

comfyoldcardi · 15/04/2024 20:35

Can you do an online consult and upload that photo?

cathyandclaire · 15/04/2024 20:41

Is there one larger scaly one?

The ones on my stomach are all on the right side. Most of the marks on my thighs are also on the right leg. There are a couple of one off marks in other places.

Kind of!

The first mark was on my shoulder (about 10p size) then the others began appearing 2/3 weeks later.

Pityriasis roses can cause a rash that looks like flat pink/red/ brown patches depending on skin tone . There's often one 'herald patch' which is bigger , the patches may be a bit peely/ scaly in the middle. It's harmless and self limiting and often cones on in spring. I've had it and it looked a bit like that, although was just on my torso and abdomen not on my leg.

The one side thing also made me wonder about shingles- but more than one dermatome and the time scale doesn't really fit.

Cookerhood · 15/04/2024 21:02

My son had something that looked very similar & it was pityriasis. It was only on his torso, though.

Barleycat · 15/04/2024 21:04

Pityaryasis rosea, not sure of spelling. Lasts about 6 weeks

Mumaway · 15/04/2024 21:05

I can't tell well enough from your picture whether these are raised. Molluscum contagiosum? NHS.net have a good rash-matcher!

Sunshineismyfavourite · 15/04/2024 21:12

Have you been in a hot tub or swimming pool OP?

Nope, they're all flat.

Yes that's what I was trying to write- spellcheck kindly changed it to roses!

Sandrine1982 · 15/04/2024 21:20

Also made me think of pityriasis rosea. I had this when I was younger. Lasted for over a year. Doctors couldn't find the cause... they thought it was psoriasis and was incurable.

in the end it turned out that it was pytiriasis and was caused by chronic tonsillitis / strep infections, so I had my tonsils out and the rash slowly disappeared.

it could be something else though...

@Cookerhood do you mind me asking what caused it?

I can't remember. It may have been viral? I think it just went away on its own.

Scarletttulips · 15/04/2024 22:36

Go to the pharmacist - they can tell you want it is and see if they have anything to help.

Happycow · 15/04/2024 23:19

Looks a bit like guttate psoriasis, although the pocs aren't very clear.

Happycow · 15/04/2024 23:20

I should say, the early stages of guttate psoriasis. And many cases dont ever get as bad as the first google image search results!

Biomic · 15/04/2024 23:28

My daughter has had a form of pityriasis, it looks like that. Comes in waves and usually starts on her torso on one side, then next wave her legs/bottom. I'd second going to a pharmacy if you can't get a GP appointment.

coffeeisthebest · 16/04/2024 08:55

Yes my daughter currently has Pityriasis. It started with one larger spot so sounds the same to you. I had never heard of it before she was diagnosed. The spots keep on coming currently in waves although are mainly on her stomach. The large spot came first and then a week later the other spots, and it has been a week and they keep coming.

10littlepirates · 16/04/2024 09:27

Could it be discoid eczema? They'd probably be scaly if eczema though. I had that on my stomach and thighs once (some of the discs much smaller than. Google images would suggest) and was struggling to shift it with various prescription creams and shower gels and then it went completely when I took a holiday from work so I think was stress related! But also agree with seeing a pharmacist while waiting for GP appointment.
