Antibiotics

Hey just after some advice. I’ve been on antibiotics for two weeks now - following doctor advice for a strong chest infection. I’ve always suffered from negative mental health and at times suicidal thoughts but have managed it well definitely for the last year. Suddenly today I’m overwhelmed again and have had silly thoughts that I’m doing my best to manage. One of my friends has suggested there is a link between antibiotics and some negative mental health - has anyone else experienced this and can anyone suggest any helpful strategies?

Not aware of any off the top of my head, but you don't mention what antibiotics you're on? Is there any mention on the patient info leaflet in the box?

Could it be to the chest infection rather than the antibiotics? I know having broken sleep will certainly effect mental health. Hope you feel better soon 🙂

Yes I was going to also say could it be the impact of the infection? I have had flu and my mental health has been impacted during my recovery. Be kind to yourself while you recover and maybe see what happens to the thoughts once you feel better and have finished the antibiotics. Having said that, there may be a connection like your friend said to the medication and if so that might be worth checking with a medical professional. Take care OP and reach out if things get overwhelming.

Hope you’re ok op. Well your gut health is very closely aligned to your general wellbeing, and I wonder are the antibiotics killing all your good bacteria in your gut? Could you start replacing the lost good bacteria with Yakut, kefir etc? X

You've been really poorly for a good length of time, it's okay to feel down. Get your strength back, eat well. Probiotics are good for the gut as pp said.
