My ds1 has had problems with constipation for years and has had to have Sennakot/Lactulose and used Dulcolax on occasion.

Since Sat morning he has had chronic diharrea (sp) and has been vomiting (buo only bile type liquid) sorry tmi!!

He feels very bunged up and feels like he wants to have a bowel movement.

I think he is impacted (used to be a NA years ago) so what should i do? He has had a suppositary but nothing happening.
Am prob gonna have to take him to out of hours when DH comes home but wondering if anyone has any experience of this?

He is 16.6 btw.
TIA

aGalChangedHerName · 30/03/2008 12:50

How long will it take to get him moving cece? Will go get the box of sachets out and force feed him some. God i wish he would just do as i say, would be fine if he would!!

Will probably take 3 days to clear the backlog!

aGalChangedHerName · 30/03/2008 13:02

Oh god...

Schools are on hols this week and he is meant to be doing overtime at work and studying and playing golf. Oh well it's his own bloody fault. He may listen to me next time eh??

Hmm exercise will be good for him tho yes?

Thats if he can ever leave the bathroom.

from my memory there is a good webiste called something like childhoodconstipation It has tips for getting it out.

I was told to sit her on the loo after a big meal and get her to blow bubbles (those ones you get in party bags). Also a rock and pop sort of technique.... Will see if I can find the info again...

foofi - DD has been on it for 2 years now. She is 6. Everytime we try to wean her off it the problem returns so who knows!?

aGalChangedHerName · 30/03/2008 13:15

Well he has gone for a bath. i do have bubbles...wonder if he would like to sit on the loo and blow them lol. At 16?? He robably would actually if he thought it would make him go.

It does work - as you blow you also bear down - try it!

cece · 30/03/2008 13:19

also limit milk to one glass a day and no apple juice... or at least that is what the doc told me...

Lots of stuff on childhoodconstipation.com Have just printed out the bristol stool chart and a bowel movement record chart for us to use. We are planning a check up with dioc in about a months time so may be useful...

aGalChangedHerName · 30/03/2008 13:21

Thanks cece that is so interesting. He loves milk and drinks pints of the stuff. Will limit that and have a look at the website you mentioned.

Thanks again xx

Do you have any glycerine suppositories or enememas to use when he gets impacted like this?

Movicol will work, but can be a bit slow.

If he shows any signs of obstruction- abdomen distended with vomiting and unable to open bowels at all, he must see someone medical ASAP.

In the meantime, orange juice, prune juice, dried figs/apricots may help 'stimulate' things!

aGalChangedHerName · 30/03/2008 17:15

His abdomen is not distended but he cannot go the toilet normally. He has stopped vomiting now. He is still having diaharrea(sp). I think he is impacted. I have given him a glycerin suppositary with no effect.

Not sure what to do now tbh?
