ACL - knee ligament tear / break

Hi
It seems I've ruptured my ACL, not sure if the damage extent yet, but felt a huge clunk when it happened and couldn't put my food down, started getting better but 2 weeks later it's still very stiff and I'm using crutches if moving around outside in case it's suddenly sore / to help my knee by supporting it.
Saw physio who had said he thinks it's broken but needs a scan, so he's writing to my GP
Anyone with any experience of dealing worth it, or the surgery? I'm 52 and Physio said they sometimes don't consider if you're over 45 and you just live with it ... so not sure if I can have surgery, or even want the cert that takes a year to rehabilitate 😵‍💫
TIA

My niece tore her acl (skiing) and after several appointments with various specialists she had surgery.

The acl was replaced with donor tissue. Be prepared for the long recovery time of approximately 12 months.

Following exercise instructions is vital for a good outcome as the knee stiffens and swells.

She felt it was worth doing as at 42 she wanted to continue an active lifestyle.
