Tooth absess

My brother has a gum infection. He suspects a tooth absess. The doctors is full and 111 has said to go to a dentist. Will a dentist prescribe antibiotics? He has had this a few days and I am worried as I have read not to leave it.

May well need root canal treatment though.

Dentist can prescribe abs and give a treatment plan if the cause is dental.
