Possible tendon damage on top of foot -in agony!

I recently posted about some foot pain that I was having over the Easter weekend. I was considering going to A&E to get it checked over as it was pretty painful, but given the BH weekend, I ended up leaving it and thankfully, it seemed to settle down and I was able to function pretty much normally.

I had the week off work last week and went back yesterday. My usual routine is a two mile walk there and back each day which is obviously great in terms of exercise and also clearing the mind.

I was walking back yesterday and about half a mile from home, I became aware of an excruciating pain around the toes on my right foot (the same foot where I'd had the pain previously but a different place). I could barely make it the rest of the way home as each time I put my weight down on that side, I got a very sharp pain shooting through. This was much worse than the previous pain and, as I said, in a different place, sort of across the foot at the base of the toes, around the centre, middle toe area. It's tender in that area too, but only on the top. if I try to put my foot flat on the floor and put weight on it, it's v. painful. Also, hurts to pull the toes back towards the body, but not to bend them down and under.

My partner was at home and took me up to the urgent care centre at our local hospital as I decided it was bad enough to need checking out, given that I couldn't walk on it.

Anyway, I was examined and x-rayed by a nurse practitioner. She said it was possibly either a stress fracture or, more likely, a tendon issue. The x-ray showed nothing in terms of fractures, so I was packed off home and told to rest it, take ibuprofen and to give it a couple of weeks and it should start to improve.

I'm just concerned by the amount of pain I'm in when I try and weight bear and the fact that I'm basically incapacitated and don't really know what the problem is.

Would I need a scan of some sort to find out more?

I know some of you kindly responded to my previous post with advice about stress fractures and other soft tissue injuries, but I just wondered if anyone can guide me with this specific situation.

I'm obviously one of those people who hates being laid up and likes to know what the problem is and to do something about it!! In other words, a terrible patient!!

TIA
