Hi
I've named changed for this in case anyone recognises me. I had a scan this week after feeling a lump in my pelvic area. The sonographer found a large, grapefruit size, cyst. He felt not suspicious. I have a call with the GP next week. I wondered if anyone experienced anything similar ?

Yes - grapefruit sized ovarian cyst. Called a simple/functional cyst. Was told if smaller they normally go dissolve away on their own - I had a keyhole surgery to remove it along with the tube and ovary it was connected to. I expect you will have a gynaecologist referral to discuss this. I think on my referral appt I had a CT scan too to back up the ultrasound findings.

Same. Mine was 9.5 cm and my local hospital only removes if they are over 10cm! I was told it will disperse on its own.

Yes. I had a large ovarian cyst.

Planned key hole surgery but was open surgery instead as cyst was 20cm (yep, it was big!). Surgeon described the cyst as ‘magnificent’ 😂 and asked permission to use videos taken during and after surgery for educational purposes.

Ill told it was interesting due its size, cyst type and years that it had been developing. It was a Dermoid Cyst, likely have been there and ‘growing’ for 20 years. And that made sense to me as I had pain for about 15 years that had been investigated. The videos of its size and the content were a bit mad.

TMI warning… it contain 2 x fully formed teeth and hair. A theatre nurse combed out the hair in one of the videos and you could hear the chat on video describing how they hadn’t seen as much hair before. Combed out it was a lush 8 or 9 inches in length, thick and dark hair

As it was open surgery, recovery took some time but was totally worth it. After 5 weeks or so I felt like new.

Yes my ovarian cyst was 10cm x 6cm. I had open surgery. Two weeks later they told me it was a cancerous tumour. That was over ten years ago and I am completely well. Cancer isn’t necessarily the end, as there are so many treatments available these days. Good luck.

Thanks all for the messages. Sonographer thought nothing suspicious so fingers crossed 🤞.

That's so strange about the long hair 😳

I had a muscinous cystadenoma, was enormous, 26cmx18cm, they had to do a laparotomy as too large for keyhole.
I had 8 weeks off work and non cancerous so nothing else.
Good luck
