I've had chronically low ferritin levels since having my second child 4.5 years ago. I finally had an iron infusion last May and had some mild "iron flu" symptoms they warned I could get. The infusion only lasted for 6 months and I just had my second last week. Same type of iron but double the dose.
About 36 hours later, I developed chills, a fever of 38.2 and achey muscles. The day after I started to have diarrhea and extremely painful stomach cramps with some slight nausea. This lasted for 3 days! The cramps then stopped and the diarrhea stopped for around 36 hours too.
However, the diarrhea returned this morning (although not had it since then), but I was kept awake with absolutely awful reflux symptoms all night and it's been very uncomfortable all day today. I'd say it's worse on an empty stomach. I never, ever suffer with reflux or indigestion so I don't know what's going. My mouth is full of ulcers, my voice is hoarse and croaky and I'm tired. Also have a bit of nausea and achey too. Has anyone else ever been like this after an iron infusion? I'm now on day 8 post infusion.
Trouble is, I had a whole array of symptoms prior to the infusion such as weakness, fatigue, on and off mouth ulcers, restless legs, tremors, nausea etc so it's hard to know if my body is just playing up.
This indigestion or whatever it is, is just awful though! Any advice?
