Colonoscopy

I’m having my first colonoscopy with conscious sedation soon. I’ve already had the call with the nurse to go through medical history and forgot to ask a small question: after changing into a hospital gown (and my robe and slippers) are your clothes/shoes usually left in a locker or are you given a bag to put them in? Or are you supposed to have your own bag big enough to carry them?

Thanks

Varies from hospital to hospital - some have lockers others give you a bag to carry it with you
Therefore, don't worry.
Good luck

For mine I opted to wear dignity shorts so kept my own clothes on the top including my socks.. My bag just came into the room with me. They popped it under the trolley when they transferred me to recovery.

Good luck. It really is no problem.

Thanks all.

I've read several of the threads on here which have been really helpful.

I was just mixing up the 1st dose of Plenvu and the mango smell was already making me feel sick (can't stand mango!). I'll have lots of lemonade and black tea ready this evening.

The plenvu is way less volume than moviprep

You can put orange bit free squash
Or little lemon bit free squash/ cordial withit

Dya have straws - then more goes over tongue / avoids tongue

Chilling it.in fridge can help

It makes me sick always

Take it steady

For most people - the prep is the worse bit

They loook after you

I don't have any squash but there's plenty of lemonade. Box of straws on the counter so I won't forget. The Plenvu mix is already in the fridge so hopefully should be cold enough for later on.

Ace

Let us know how you get on

Shout if you have any questions

I will be having colonoscopies as regular as eye tests for the rest of my dayz...

Shout if you have any queries

They give u a print out on the day

If they take biopsies - you will await results of those

If they find bowel polyps - they remove them

My colonoscopy couldn't have gone any better, was first in line for the afternoon session. The modesty shorts were quite something though, I looked like I was wearing a giant puffy skirt - the nurse apologised for not having my size!

Nothing obvious was found but 6 biopsies were taken from around the colon.

I had conscious sedation (Midazolam) - it felt a bit strange just after the sedation went in but that passed quickly. Felt little tugs when biopsies were taken. I wasn't sleepy at all and was fully aware of my surroundings all the time and didn't need any recovery time. According to the report my bowel prep quality was excellent so was happy about that.

Had a (not very nice) cup of tea, got dressed and DH was already waiting for me. Was home within 30 mins and had a (much nicer) cup of tea!

Glad all went well
Best wishes.

Hello, I know this was a little while ago but can I ask how you felt afterwards? Were you able to eat normally afterwards or did the prep leave any lasting symptoms? Thanks

Ceri80 · 13/06/2024 12:49

@Oliversmummy19 sorry I missed your message.

I felt really good afterwards, went straight back to my normal diet and had no issues at all.

Are you scheduled to have a colonoscopy soon?
