Ovulation pain - what's normal?!

Hello mumsnet!

A conversation with my sister tonight got me wondering what is actually normal for ovulation pain / cramps. I don't remember having them when I was younger, but I have absolutely had ovulation cramps for at least the last 2-3 years

Today they've been so bad they kept me awake all night last night, I've been bed or sofa bound all day, standing up made my legs go weak with pain and I've been groaning out loud when they hit badly

My sister asked me if they're normal as she has apparently never had them, has no pain or anything when ovulating! I explained they differ in how bad they are, today is definitely the worse they've been but I can absolutely tell when I am ovulating based on the pain and cramps. I've also noticed it's always the left side that causes me so much trouble - standing up or stretching makes me feel like I've been physically punched in my left ovary sometimes, and it's been like that today

Now I'm wondering whether this is something others experience to this degree or whether I should actually book a doctors appointment to discuss this - not sure if it's relevant but I have had two miscarriages in the last 3 years, I'm not sure if they have caused me to be more aware of my body during ovulation or something

Does anyone else get ovulation pain / cramps? Or does this sound abnormal to anyone?

What age are you OP?
Im mid 40’s- when I was younger I had them most months, left side only but they were niggly- not painful just annoying. But I knew exactly which day I was ovulating.
As I’ve got older they have got worse. I now feel like it’s a painful ache, bloating, stitch type feeling for 2 days. Then it goes until the next month. Really annoying. It’s not as painful as you describe but it hurts and is noticeable.

@WhiteLily1 Ah I thought I added my age! I'm 28 - some months it is not as bad and definitely accurate to describe it as a stitch like pain. I think today is the worst they've ever been for me but it's what got me thinking.

Mine are more painful than periods but can be eased with over the counter painkillers, usually last a few hours. It's very annoying.
