Hi ! I’ve recently had some routine blood tests. And the only one that was high was this ?!!!

I feel absolutely fine in myself….. a few weeks ago had a bad cold virus which lingered for about 2 weeks. Could this affect it ?

im really worrying.

High Platelet count ? Thoughts please.

Hi @Lifesforloving1 did you ever get any answers to this at all?

I’ve just had my results back and they are 488 and I’m really worried about it!

thanks x

@Lifesforloving1 did you ever get any answers? I’m in the exact same situation and starting to worry!

@NK3450 @Dots1234
12mths ago my platelets count was in the 600's.. unfortunately if you Google it sometimes points to an underlying serious condition - I was worried.
GP referred me for a chest x-ray, ultrasound on my kidneys, womb & ovaries... All came back clear.
Haematology advised that as my results were all clear to try increasing my iron.
I've been taking iron supplements and having 3 monthly blood tests, and my platelets are now within normal range...
I'd ask for a GP appt to discuss your results and go from there..

Mine was 579 a few weeks ago I'm being investigated for chronic anemia and possibly celiac disease. Try not to worry and definitely don't Google as it's often miles away from the truth

Dots1234 · 18/06/2024 19:44

thats good to know, I also had low ferritin (10) on the blood tests, I’m possibly nearing on anemic so I have started iron supplements last week, Dr thinks the possible anemia could be causing the platelets to rise so hopefully the ferrous sulphate will help!

DumbledoresWand · 18/06/2024 19:47

@Dots1234 I've been taking ferrous sulphate, and it's helped bring my platelet count down - its been gradual, but definitely helped.

Ive had similar results - GP has asked I do a more indepth blood test. Have you had any symptoms? My legs are always very bruised. I have suffered low iron before but GP reckons I am not anemic atm!

DumbledoresWand · 19/06/2024 18:02

@KarenOH I had no symptoms at all.. the FBC was done as I'd not had one since before covid. I'm T2 diabetic, and they wanted to check my medication wasn't affecting anything else, and that's how the platelets were picked up.

Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious - I read that even eczema can cause a high count!
