Sudden pain in hip

Recently, I've been woken up with intense pain in my left hip. It doesn't happen every night - maybe every few days. It wakes me up in intense pain for about 3 or 4 minutes, before easing off and leaving me with soreness. It doesn't seem to happen if I turn over - last night I could swear I wasn't moving at all - just this pain. It feels like someone is trying to pop my hip out iyswim?

I'm menopausal, being 60, but I run, walk dogs, go to the gym. All the stuff you should do to prevent hip issues.

Does anyone know what this is?

Could be your actual hip, could be one of the muscles around it in spasm, could be nerve impingement. I get “hip” and neck spasms in bed sometimes, and I have piriformis syndrome. It’s worse when I have not done any stretching and balancing exercises like Pilates.
