i still feel full of air 6 months after keyhole surgery - am i imagining things?

I had my appendix out 6 months ago but i can't get over the fact that my stomach still looks 'inflated'. i never really got my stomach flat again after having dd, but i'm sure it was flatter before i went into hospital than it is now, iyswim?

Am i imagining this or has anyone else come across this phenomenon? Could i have air still trapped in my abdomen? sorry if this sounds ridiculous.

It's very unlikely. But you could have distention of the bowel if things are still settling down following the surgery - abdo surgery of any kind can cause swelling while the bruising goes and it can take a really long time to go down.

Do you have any pain if you press on the area. If not, it's either just still swollen and will recover in the next eight weeks or so, or perhaps you've not done as much exercise while you've been recovering from the surgery.

no it's not painful. that's the weird thing, i've been excercising more recently but i'm still like a balloon. i run most days and do lots of abdomenal excercises to try and get my figure back, just starting to feel like a lost cause really. perhaps i'm meant to be spherical

Seriously, there's a few reasons why this might happen - age is one unfortunately, polycystic ovarian syndrome is another, do you have irregular periods or find it difficult to lose weight?

Worth seeing a GP if you are making all this effort and still feeling bloated, there are lots of reasons it could be, so you should probably rule those out before deciding you are just puffer fish in human form
