Ectopic beats on exercise

I've recently started exercising using a rower and 10 minutes in, when my heart starts pumping, I've noticed I get ectopic beats. It's scared me and causes me to stop. I have no other symptoms.
I underwent some tests including ECG, holter monitor bloods and everything looked normal ( it did pick up a few ectopic beats). I used to exercise more in the past and I never had this problem so why now? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm 41, no health issue except for anemia.

Anyone?

I get them every time my HR reduces after exercise as it passes a certain rate (100bpm), but bizarrely only when my heart rate is on the way down.
Had tests and never got to the bottom of it. If you’re lucky you might be able to get a 24 hour heart tracer where you press a button when you feel the ectopics so they can look more closely at that moment on the trace.
I did this (nhs pre covid) but they lost the tape 🙄 so it was never looked at 🙄

Hang on, I thought there was a relationship between ectopics and anemia ?

Jess38 · 25/03/2024 14:26

@FlowerBarrow I think you can get ectopic beats with anemia but what worries me is I don't notice them at rest, only when my heart rate increases during exercise. After my exercise, as my heart rate slows, they go away. I might enquire about the tape you mention but I was wondering if anyone else experiences this?

Ectopics can occur when your heart is 'irritated'- perhaps by exercise, stress, anxiety, obesity. Anaemia may be a factor as well- are you being treated?
Magnesium can be very helpful for heart health and ectopics. I would recommend you take it daily.

I used to have this. About two sets in while I was lifting weights.

Had investigations which involved me going on a running machine in a hospital gown with no bra on and running to exhaustion. Nothing showed up.

Didn't know about the anaemia link. I've had low ferritin since I gave birth 14yrs ago, a GP looked at my results last year for the preceding 10yrs.

Ferritin level now a very healthy state and no more ectopic beats. I'd assumed it was the HRT working.

@Droolylabradors thank you for this. I have low ferritin (15) since having my youngest 4 years ago but the iron tablets make me feel sick so I haven't really been treating it.

I did more exercise today and I noticed it again 10 minutes into my rowing. I took a break and then rowed another 10 minutes without noticing any... it does feel like exercise triggers it but I guess not all the time...
