Anyone else got this horrendous cold that won't shift?

Hello,

I'm at a loss what I can do about this horrendous cold.

Had it since 27th Feb, usual cold symptoms runny nose, bit of a sore throat. Now turned into an awful chesty and phlegmy cough, constant runny nose, can't smell anything or taste anything (but only until lunchtime - after that it's fine and comes back)

Had covid twice and doesn't feel much like that.
It's been going on for ages now and I don't know what to do to try and shift it.

Any ideas? 😭
Meant to be travelling to the Lake District this weekend and I feel absolutely horrendous. Also working 12h days don't help and I've no time to be ill anymore! 🤣

Thank you!

I had that in January and tested positive for Covid. I was surprised as the symptoms were different to those I had when I previously had Covid. It took over six weeks for me to start feeling better, the chesty cough lingered for even longer!

Yes, me! I'm on my last day of antibiotics and they haven't touched it at all!! The chesty cough is driving me insane, my chest sounds like it's rattling constantly, the green phlegm I'm bringing up is disgusting, I can't seem to shift the snotty nose and just feeling horrendous! I can't wait for it to go (whenever that'll be)

Honestly it feels like I've had this a lifetime! The horrid mucus makes me feel sick whenever I bring this up, not a good look when you're in the car and retching scrabbling round for a tissue 🤣

I thought I had covid but test was negative. It's been nearly two week and I am choked up with mucous and snot that is clear but I'm making a lot of it and keep having to clear my throat and blow my nose multiple times a day. Hoping it settles down soon. May try hay fever tablet to see if that helps

I've had the cough for 6 weeks, keep losing my voice too.

I had this since Jan 1st, it is just now beginning to ease. Still not 100% though and fear I won’t be for some weeks yet given the trajectory so far. Exactly as you describe, rattly chesty cough with green mucous, lots and lots and lots of snot, ears went funny at times, breathless and dry cough in the evenings also. Very very odd virus.

Totallybannanas · 29/03/2024 12:21

Oh wow you really have had it a long time. I'm just starting to feel better do 3rd time hoping I won't jinx it. Did anyone else have really bad fatigue? I've been so, so tired with it and muscles have been aching loads.

eekwhatnow · 29/03/2024 16:18

Have you been tested for whooping cough? I thought I had a chest infection but antibiotics didn't help and turned out I had whooping cough. Apparently it's everywhere.

sunnylanding · 29/03/2024 16:26

I think it's just the latest strain of Covid tbh, it's rife where I live. I suspect I caught it the other week as I'd been to someone's house who had it but I managed to bat it off within a couple of days.

I've got numerous friends who've got absolute stinkers of "colds" at the moment and the whole household has it - weirdly some in the same house have tested positive for COVID and some haven't, with the same symptoms.

I’ve been like it since the end of Jan.. horrible rattly cough , mucous plus fatigue .. covid tests were negative but I’m not convinced
