Sore throat a hurts to swallow after dental hygienist

I had a dental hygienist appt 4 days ago. My throat is red and sore, it hurts so much to swallow, my throat looks swollen from the outside and I feel miserable. Anyone got any ideas why?

I think it's highly unlikely to be related to your hygienist appointment - a coincidence. You probably have a throat infection/virus but you should see a doctor if it doesn't start to clear.

My grandad was the same the other day, couldn’t swallow properly for about 4 days but is ok now x

He had been to the dentist also x

I have lichen planus and going to the hygienist sets it off every single time.

Complete coincidence. You have a sore throat, probably viral. You didn’t get it at the dentist.

You don’t normally get lichen planus down your throat. You will have a bug OP.

Mines right at the back near my tonsils, so I do

Flashinggreen · 24/03/2024 20:37

I’ve never seen it near tonsils in over 25 years of looking in mouths, sounds like a very unpleasant place to get it. Classically it’s inside the cheeks and many people are unaware of it.
