Food poisoning?

DH went out with work for a bottomless brunch two weeks ago on Saturday.

Since the Sunday night/ Monday morning afterwards he has has diarrhoea and cramps. Otherwise feels fine.

He had a kebab on the way home from his night out so I initially blamed that. Then I thought it was a bug.

However 4 other people he went out with AND ate from the same dishes as (same end of the table) also have the same symptoms.

There's no pattern to it, for example he's been okay all of today but has gone 8 times (just water) tonight and has cramps.

He's tried diarrhoea relief tablets to no avail. I've just bought some buscopan cramps.

He still has appetite but almost everything he eats and drinks is going straight through him. In particular anything dairy based or sugary seems to set things off quite quickly. He's been eating cereal with oat milk and drinking ginger tea which seem to be the only things not making him run immediately to the bathroom.

We thought he was over it today but tonight has been as bad as the beginning.

Can food poisoning go on for this long? The others in the group and reporting similar ongoing symptoms with none of their families who were not present exhibiting anything (making it less likely to be viral?). I'm unsure what to suggest he eats or drinks other than the literally two things he seems to be able to. He's getting rather fed up (and sore!).

Sounds like he could do with having a sample tested to see what’s going on really. He should contact the GP and request testing.

@DarkDarkTimeOfLife yeah I've suggested that to him. He's a bit of a GP avoider!

My Mum ate some sausages from a buffet that had been left out for ages and then put back in the fridge. She had diarrhoea for months! Weirdly we were just remembering this the other day and she said no matter how many times she saw the doctor they just said IBS and never did a sample. IBS can be caused by a bout of food poisoning though. It ran it's course eventually but I remember Imodium having zilch effect on her on a few occasions.

Campylobacter and salmonella can last a good while, I'd try to convince him that he needs to do a stool sample.

Dh and dd got food poisoning from Indian take away. Dd was ok after one day of illness. Dh was ill for couple of weeks and lost weight. He went to go and got poo testing kit but first sample got lost and by the time to give new one he felt fine and didn't do it. It took about three weeks to feel ok after the poisoning.

He needs to see a doctor

Definitely all signs point to some sort of organism if the people he ate with all have same symptoms! He might be a GP avoider but if he wants to get better he had probably get himself down there with a sample.
