Advice needed on bleeding between periods and pain down one side. Really worried!

About 4 months ago, I started bleeding around ovulation time, together with some pain. I went to the docs who said that some women get this and not to worry.

OK, so this month, I've had 3 small bleeds, loosely around ovulation time and am due on any moment now. I've also got pain on one side, possibly around where my ovaries are but it feels like pain in my leg joint and I've got pain in my thigh, like a dull ache. Sometimes it feels a bit like pressure there aswell. Could this be a fibroid pressing down? I got checked for fibroids a year ago and nothing was found and up to date with my smear test.

I'm under a lot of stress at the moment and I'm petrified that I've got the big C, a really big fear of mine so be gentle with me.

Any advice greatly received - thanks v much.

Hi, it sounds like a possible ovarian cyst

redadmiral · 27/03/2008 18:20

I had some bleeding at unusual times and found it hard to get anyone medical very interested in it, which was kind of reassuring.

I think mine was due to stress, but it was more like a proper period, just at very odd times, and I've always been very regular.

I Googled like mad but couldn't find anything too sinister at the time..

Thanks you two. Mine defo isn't like a proper period, just a bit of blood and that's it.

Loopylou, do you or anyone else know much about ovarian cysts?

Hello Curly

I also get some bleeding around ovulation time (and before a period...and after....).

I find mid-cycle that I get a heavy dragging feeling low down for a day or two, sometimes so that I can hardly stand up straight.

I got it checked out...nothing to worry about. Just one of these lovely things we have to get used to, and accept can get worse before it gets better.

Hysterectomy anyone ??

Many episodes of ovarian cyst formation occur on one side or the other but usually not on both ovaries simultaneously, and also abnormal bleeding is common with ovarian cysts, make an appointment tommorrow with your GP and ask their advice. Good Luck

Getmeoutahere, that sounds very reassuring. It's just that the pain, which sounds very similar, has gone on for over a week and it's getting me down. Perhaps I need a hip replacement??

I have taken comfort from what you've said and will go and get it checked out tomorrow.

Loopylou, are you a doctor - you sound like you know what you're talking about. I do only have pain on one side. I'm off tomorrow to the docs. Have also got pounding headache and feel awful but period is due so not surprising really.
