Severely dry sore hands

Please can you help me?

My skin is sore very dry, I have itching patches on my wrists and my hands are incredibly itchy, I wake in the night itching them.

I feel like I am washing my hands too much but it can't be helped, I have a toddler, every time she washes hers I'm doing mine again and that's every toilet visit, every time she eats or plays with the dog.

I am trying my best to moisturise them a couple of times a day with Aveeno hand moisturiser but it's doing nothing. It's been months. I'm so tired of it and I'm embarrassed by how horrible my hands are

It's been so uncomfortable and gone on for so long I'm actually thinking about ringing my doctor, which I know sounds ridiculous but I don't know what else to do. I'm wondering if it's something more severe.

Change your soap to something milder?

You could also look at a more heavy-duty moisturiser. When my hands are like this I have zeroderm cream and then a normal hand cream on too.

Go to the docs. Could be eczema , hydrocortisone should sort it if it is. Maybe a more mild, moisturising soap, no fragrance etc

I could have written your post. Mine got so bad that the skin between my fingers split, the skin on top of my fingers and on my palm was so unbearably itchy that in the night I'd wake and itch and created big open sores. I was so embarrassed as it looked awful.
Went to the doctor who diagnosed pompholyx and sent me away with a prescription for eumovate cream which worked a treat but a couple weeks after it came back. So now I periodically apply eumovate for a week and then when it's better I diligently apply a really thick nourishing hand cream, and once it's back to feeling really itchy again I use eumovate again. Probably not recommended as it's a steroid cream but its what has worked for me and now it seems to stay away for longer periods of time. Hope you find a remedy soon as it really is horrible.

Also don't feel ridiculous for speaking to your doctor. I felt it started to impact my every day life as it was just so horrifically itchy and patches would become infected.

I get this and it is hideous! Things that really help - Cavilon Spray (forms an invisible barrier that doesnt get washed off - can be purchased from Amazon), Working Hands Hand Cream and / or Nursem Hand cream (the latter being formulated by a nurse who was tired of the sore skin caused by frequent hand washing at work).
