I’ve had a revolting fungal toenail for over 4 years - def pre-covid - and have taken the plunge to get the mega-meds from the GP. Taken me 2 months to work up the courage to start them but I can’t bear it anymore and it’s spreading to other toenails. I want to wear open ties and get pedicures 😆
if you’ve taken it, how long did it take to work and did you get the awful side effects? Dr has given me forms to take for liver function test in 6 weeks.
I’ve got GORD too so hoping it won’t make it worse as it’s reasonably controlled atm. She didn’t seem to think it would.

I took it for 6 months and it worked brilliantly. No side effects and the affected nails have stayed clear.

Hotpinkangel19 · 19/03/2024 21:02

Following as i have 9, and i'm too embarrassed to visit the GP.

minipie · 19/03/2024 21:11

I took it for a few months for a fungal nail. Don’t remember any side effects (or liver tests 😳). It worked and it cleared up my long term recurrent athlete’s foot issue too.

dementedpixie · 19/03/2024 21:17

My dh has been taking them for quite a few months. He gets regular blood tests while taking them

Great! I can’t wait to have nice nails again.

I’m sure the GP has seen worse! I think I have four on that foot but one is particularly bad.

Great to hear it helped you and you didn’t get side effects. It’s harsh on the liver so hence the tests.

I took it for at least 6 months , no side effects , blood fine . It worked and I’d tried all sorts .

dementedpixie · 19/03/2024 21:31

@Goatymum it seems to be slow progress. He even submitted more nail clippings and it is definitely fungal nails so he kept on with taking them. He's not had any side effects which is good

Goatymum · 19/03/2024 21:33

@dementedpixie - I submitted clippings too at first! Can take a good six months. I’m hoping they look better come the summer.,

@Floralnomad - I tried all sorts of remedies but nothing & it spread

I took it and it seemed to work but about 6 months after finishing it, the fungal nails came back unfortunately. Currently using Vicks everyday on them but I'm not really hopeful. It doesn't mix with other medication I'm taking, I had to stop treating one condition in order to try to tackle the fungal nails so not keen to do that again!

Ineffable23 · 19/03/2024 21:48

I had to take it for a skin condition so only for 6 ish weeks and I didn't have any problematic side effects.

Horsewhisperers · 19/03/2024 21:53

I took it for six months. I had regular blood tests and all clear with no side effects. It was only one infected nail but the whole toe was painful with red and painful skin which cleared up with the medication.
I had the infection for several years and the nail is still thickened and harder than normal but no serious problems.

Goatymum · 20/03/2024 07:43

Thanks all - I had quite bad reflux last night - so annoying. Will persevere in case it was just random.

Try taking it at a different time of day, it's only one a day isn't it if I remember rightly. I always took mine with breakfast.

Goatymum · 20/03/2024 15:20

@MissRainbowBrite - I’ve taken it with lunch as usually take gaviscon advance after breakfast and before bed. Usually should leave two hours before taking other meds.
