I don’t take anything FWIW I just think I am lucky! There’s so many supplements out there I don’t know what’s a fad and what’s good .. but would like to try help him
Thought about buying a juicer and making fresh OJ every morning ?

I take high dose vitamin D year round as otherwise I become deficient. At the first sign of a cold (currently got my first one in about four years) I take echinacea tincture and vitamin C and zinc lozenges.

I'm really interested in this as I am similar - I am constantly ill from catching things from my youngest.

My DH never catches anything.

I also know of other couples who are similar. A friend of mine eats nothing but junk and is never ill. Her husband who eats clean/ is well versed on nutrition and is a marathon runner will catch everything going and ends up in bed for days.

I don't know that it's always to do with what vitamins you take....

Mercurial123 · 22/03/2024 08:34

I take vitamin D and K combined and a vitamin C supplement.

AnnaMagnani · 22/03/2024 08:40

All the supplements are fads with the exception of Vit D.

Simple things like - does your DH wash his hands as often as you do? Does he eat as healthy as you do?

Apparently Echinachea is good, the liquid version the best. Does anyone else take this?

putonyourwarpaint · 22/03/2024 10:43

I used to take echinacea back in the 00's but it didn't really make much of a diffference.

I do think there must be some other factors at play - I have suffered with ill health all my life (pretty much since birth) despite eating healthily and taking a multitude of vitamins. My DH basically lives off highly processed foods and catches virtually nothing. If he does catch something he can still carry on working as it doesn't affect him too much. It's also over very quickly for him.

I think they used to dole out antibiotics a lot when I was younger and I wonder if that has somehow affected my immune system.

I take vitamin D for most of the year (spray rather than tablet, as this is apparently absorbed better). I have rosehip syrup (full of vitamin C) over the winter (usually diluted in hot or cold water like squash). I make this myself.

I also wash my hands everytime I come home and try not to touch my face.

I tend to avoid colds etc. and can't remember the last time I had one. Haven't had covid either. DC & DH get more colds than me (and have all had covid), but don't follow my regimen quite so rigidly. Not sure whether I am just genetically lucky or my system works, but it costs little and is no bother, so I keep it up!

Eat decent, real food, including meat , fish and full fat dairy and you do not really need to worry about supplements. Also knowing that alcohol, and some other foods can cause you to not absorb vitamins is useful.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 22/03/2024 11:40

I take Vitamin D, Magnesium, Zinc and Omega 3 fish oils. I'm in my 70s and rarely get colds, perhaps one every couple of years, if that.

AuntieMarys · 22/03/2024 11:43

I'm mid 60s and never ill. I take vit d and magnesium when I remember. I have a good diet...loads of veg and protein, and exercise regularly.

I also drink alcohol😀
I work in a school but haven't caught anything
