In hospital CT scan tomorrow at 8.30 as they think I may have a kidney stone that’s stuck - wondering if anyone has had this before or any kidney related problem and what was the outcome? I’m having a CT scan with dye which I’ve never had, does the dye go in a cannula? Feeling pretty nervous & in a lot of pain.

The dye will show up the blood vessels, but also kidneys and ureters so makes it easier to spot a stone on the scan. Yes the Radiographer will pop a cannula in your arm or hand. The dye often gives you a hot flush but only for a minute. The scan itself should be pretty quick. Kidney stones are meant to be very painful so the scan should be a breeze in comparison! Good luck and I hope they get to the cause of your issues.

The dye can make you feel like you've peed yourself too. It's the weirdest thing. But very effective

I was going to say this!

Good luck x

I had a CT with contrast last year. The dye was put in through a cannula in my hand. It made me feel very warm, and like I was going to wet myself, but the technician warned me about that so I was prepared! It was fine. Only my lower half went into the scanner so it wasn't claustrophobic.

Thanks everyone was a bit more relaxed as I knew what to expect after reading this. Definitely a strange feeling!

How did it go

CoconutGirI · 20/03/2024 12:55

Yes dye contast is put in canula, which is what I had but sometimes it can be given orally. It does make you feel a little weird. Like a weird sensation going up the arm and I felt a burning bubbling in my tummy for some minuties

worldwidetravel2017 · 20/03/2024 13:16

I had a delayed reaction to the iodine from ct scan but then i I react to most things

CoconutGirI · 20/03/2024 13:17

@worldwidetravel2017 what did you experience with regards to delayed symptoms?

worldwidetravel2017 · 20/03/2024 13:19

Rashes - itching , nausea.

Reacted to galidium from mri too..

Its just.. me / my body.. #typical

CoconutGirI · 20/03/2024 13:43

@worldwidetravel2017 ah that's interesting. I had my ct on 9th March and in the days following I had alot of nausea and itching too along with headaches. I've suspected it was probably from the contrast as only started developing them following my ct

Its definitely worth getting potential iodine delayed reaction noted on your records

I drank so much water after to try and flush it out too

Anti allergy / piriton was touching the allergy either - ended up in a n e 4 a bit

Was my bodies way of saying no thank u to the iodine

CoconutGirI · 20/03/2024 14:02

@worldwidetravel2017 I'll bring it up with my consultant at next appointment. I'm 23 weeks and noticed the day following my scan baby was acting erratic too .
I wasn't advised to drink lots of water or anything to flush it out. Wish I had of known that

worldwidetravel2017 · 20/03/2024 14:41

Congrats on your pregnancy
And yes - def mention it

Also - next time - drink lots of water after

Bad of them to of not mentioned it

I didnt know they did ct scan with iodine when preg

CoconutGirI · 20/03/2024 16:06

@worldwidetravel2017 neither did I and I was very uncomfortable getting it done while preg and refused twice but they pressured me into getting the ct done to rule out clotting as its an ivf pregnancy and I ended up having no choice as they wouldn't send me for a scan to check baby was ok after i'd fell as i fainted, unless I agreed to the ct scan first
