DS is 4 and has always had very large tonsils, even when he's not unwell they are big and when he's poorly they are absolutely huge and pretty much touch eachother. He has had tonsillitis every winter, but 1-3 times, so I know he wouldn't meet the NHS criteria for tonsil removal. He also gets multiple ear infections a year (he's just today been diagnosed with tonsillitis and an ear infection after already having tonsillitis only 2 weeks ago), and he's generally quite snotty, he snores & is a mouth breather a lot of the time due to always being bunged up.
He is covered on DH's private medical insurance so I am intending to book him a GP consultation and ask for an ENT referral, I just wondered if anyone else has gone down this route with a child with similar symptoms and what the outcome was. Would they be likely to recommend having his tonsils out? I don't want to put him through it unnecessarily but they do seem to be causing more problems each winter so if it's likely to get worse I'd rather he has them out while he's still young, if that is an option.
