Hi,

Just wondered if anyone been through anything similar?

I had a smear when i was 25 back last August with the results coming back HPV+ low grade dyskarosis, i was referred to colposcopy and had my appointment about a month later with the specialist saying she couldn’t see anything abnormal/cell changes and to return in 6months for a follow up smear/colposcopy to just check again then hopefully be returned to normal smear recall.

Fast forward 6months, In Feb i went back for my follow up. I had my smear test done first & then immediately after had the colposcopy during which again she said she couldn’t see anything abnormal & called me ‘boring’ in her words, i was obviously feeling fairly positive about the smear results from this. However i’ve just seen on my NHS app my results are back and have come back low grade dyskarosis again, i’m so confused how the colposcopy (which looks at the whole cervix not just a sample like the smear) showed nothing but the smears come back abnormal?

Am now feeling extremely anxious and worried that something has been missed or that things are worse than before. Anyone with any experience or advice from any similar situations would be greatly appreciated..

Low grade means they are very subtle changes to the cervix. And usually don't require treatment just monitoring. As it's low grade I imagine there might not be much to see hence they've said they couldn't see anything. In November I hady smear which was hpv positive and high grade dyskarosis. Colposcopy confirmed there were some high grade abnormal cells, I had a biopsy which confirmed cin-3 severe abnormal cells, I was then booked in for a leep procedure where I had all the cells burned away and send for testing. They've since confirmed they were precancerous cells and they have got all he abnormal cells so just active monitoring make sure it doesn't return. I would say if both colposcopys are the same result and low grade hat you dont have much to worry about :)

@ForeverFat24 thanks so much for responding. Yes i guess the fact the changes are low grade suggests they are hopefully still quite minor🤞🏻Just more waiting round to hear from the hospital to see what the next stage is in terms of another colposcopy i guess. The waiting has to be the worst part, just want it all to be over.

Oh gosh, i can’t even imagine how anxious it’s all been for you! So pleased that they have confirmed that got all the abnormal cells during the leep procedure and are i hope the procedure itself wasn’t too bad. Fingers crossed with monitoring they will stay gone - have seen lots of people say the procedure has been successful in also kick starting the immune system to shift HPV.
