Have I broken my big toe?

Exactly three weeks ago I badly stubbed my big toe. It went very purple and swollen and was sore (and next door toe was a bit purple too).

The bruising went after a week, but it remained swollen.

I'm beginning to be a bit worried now as it's still swollen after three weeks. It doesn't hurt, and is normal flesh colour, not angry inflamed, but it doesn't bend fully.

Has anyone had a similar big toe episode?

Could it be a tendon or whatever rather than a bone break? Would it definitely hurt if the toe was broken?

Big toe is the one you're actually meant to get x-rayed, because it affects balance and stability, the other you can just leave to heal. I'd get it checked.

I’ve broken several toes; you don’t always know it at the time. Although if one goes off at a jaunty/unnatural angle, that’s a break…
What you’ve described sounds like it could be broken, especially the inability to bend, sorry. Can you weight bear on it? Good idea to get it checked in case it’s healing in the wrong position. Or so I was told last time. 💐

Thanks. Yes can bear weight on it, can stand on tiptoe, no pain.

@GellerYeller @RagzRebooted Thanks both for the replies.

My dd whacked her toe so hard and it was swollen and stiff for 5 weeks and was soft tissue damage. Both can take ages to heal.
