Possible causes of Elevated Lipase? Ultrasound of abdomen normal.

Hello,

Anyone about to help?

Have had ongoing abdominal issues since November: change in bowel habits, blood In toilet, persistent nausea, abdominal pain (around navel/ slightly to left) shortly after / during eating, fatigue. Had a whole raft of tests in November including stool tests for Crohns etc, Ovarian cancer and all came back clear except low ferritin.

I called back again this month to say still got symptoms and the GP escalated it to the 2 week cancer pathway ,further tests were ordered including an FIT stool test and Ultrasound.

The FIT stool test was clear
The Ultrasound included spleen, kidneys, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and all was normal.
But this time blood tests showed slightly elevated serum lipase and lower ferritin (16).
I haven’t been able to eat much tonight. I just have no appetite and constant nausea. I am getting sick of the sight of food as it just either gives me pain (can’t stand up, bent double) or I feel full after a couple of bites and I don’t have any appetite at all.

I am worried about the pancreas because of the elevated lipase but the ultrasound came back fine, so what could the elevated lipase be due to? Gallbladder also fine according to the ultrasound.

Has anybody experienced similar? Or can shed any light on the matter?

Are you sure you don't have gallstones?? Symptoms sound typical of gallstones or even biliary sludge. Except the blood in stool but everything else fits. I have gallstones and gallbladder issues myself. And can cause elevated liver enzymes and pancreatic enzymes. They are connected. Sometimes you can hav stones that are missed on an ultra sound especially if they are tiny or they are lodged in the bile duct. Maybe see if you can get an MRI as this will lick up any stones lodged.

Thanks @ForeverFat24
I'm not sure how accurate Ultrasound scans are but I agree it does sound like gallstones. I was fully expecting the scan to show up gallstones or sludge but then she said everything was fine!

Yes, I have contacted the Health Centre to say my symptoms are still present despite the “all clear” ultrasound.

Not sure what will be next but nausea and pain seem to be getting worse.
