At wits end, is this UTI/thrush?

Please can anyone tell me if they have had symptoms like this before? I am battling with GP for more help and want to know if there is more they can give me. Symptoms started directly after a smear test.

My current symptoms:
urine smells really strong/weird in the mornings and whenever I am dehyrated/dark urine - it's not a normal urine smell, I've never had it before but I can't describe it. General discomfort down below, generally around the times when I am dehydrated or sitting for a long time - not stinging or burning, just discomfort. Sometimes a bit itchy, not often. Sometimes discharge, it's clear. Not really a smell apart from the urine thing.

Background:

  • Joined a new GP, they send you for a full MOT including urine test. I saw on results that urine test showed leukocytes - but I had 0 symptoms of anything and GP didn't mention it
  • Next month I had routine smear test. Prior to this I had absolutely 0 symptoms.
  • 2 days after smear I develop what I thought was UTI symptoms - painful urination, need to urinate more, general discomfort. GP sends me for urine and swab test.
  • Urine test could not be completed as it wasn't sealed properly, but swab came back showing yeast.(negative for BV and trich). GP did not mention this to me, I saw it on results. No follow up from GP.
  • Go back to GP for another urine test, they do a culture test and I'm told it comes back clear. I'm told to take boric acid suppositories.

I am now 2 months later and I have tried every single OTC treatment. Fluconazole works and clears all symptoms for 2 days then it returns, same with miconazole. But I cannot afford to keep buying these every few days.

I go back to GP and explain this. She tells me to take vaginal probiotics and I am now awaiting results from another swab.

Has anyone had anything similar? I'm at my wits end.

You probably have an untreated uti that has become embedded. Issue is getting it diganosised as the dipstick and cultures for utis are unreliable as per the NHS website. If your Gp won't prescripe antibiotics you could ask for hiprex.

If fluconazole works then it’s probably thrush, but the meds aren’t fully clearing it. Do it the old fashioned way with the pessaries you insert in your vagina at bedtime. They’re messy and unpleasant but they’re a lot more effective than the modern meds which you swallow.

I think you can get a longer term prescription for fluconozole , over a month or so for resistant cases. The fact it clears when taking this shows it’s fungal. I found the internal cream didn’t work fully so used the oral tablet and that has worked. Also if you do get cream or pessary avoid Canesten as it’s a rip off.
