Ankle pain

Went for drinks after work with colleagues wearing high heels, where the heel of my shoe got caught on a bag strap on the floor and I fell and properly twisted my ankle. The heels have an ankle strap which led to my foot twisting awkwardly, fully outstretched back on itself. The pain was indescribable. There was an audible click and my ankle is swollen. I can’t really bear weight on it, plus don’t have painkillers at home. I did take a bath which helped but any advice?

Nobody on MN has X-ray vision therefore they won’t be able to advise you. In all likelihood it’s just a sprain (often nastier and more painful than a break) but if you’re concerned get it assessed by your GP. The only thing that you can really do is RICE

Yes, it’s hard to gauge whether an x ray is necessary or not. Luckily I have the day off work today to rest it

I remember a similar incident happened to me a while back. I was at a party, wearing these killer heels, and ended up twisting my ankle on the dance floor. It was agony! I totally get how frustrating and uncomfortable it can be. First off, definitely try to keep off your feet as much as possible until you can see a doctor. Ankle injuries can be tricky, and it's best to get it checked out by a professional. Speaking of which, if you're in the Dallas area, I've heard great things about the foot and ankle doctor over at https://dallasfootanklesurgeon.com/. They might be able to offer some advice or even get you in for a check-up sooner rather than later.
