Any one got any experience of Lipomas? Dh has been told he has one on his knee and needs an op

The gp described it as a Benign fatty tumour. Have googled it, but would be interested to know if any one else has had this, or knows some one who has.
No details about op yet, as he will need to be seen by a consultant, and already anticipating a really long wait for op, and he is pain

Is it that unusual then?

Well, my cat has 2, though they are much more common on dogs as they age. They are benign fatty cysts and more often than not do no harm but be careful if they suddenly increase in size or become irregular. Sometimes they can conceal soemthing mroe sinister but it is rare (in cats anyway!) Has your dh had a biopsy?

the gp said that they would just cut it out, dh has only just noticed it, so don't know whether it has suddenly increased in size and he hadn't noticed it before, or if it was growing slowly and he suddenly noticed it when it started hurting.
We have been told that they are very rarely sinister, but it would be good to have that confirmed

Where is it on his knee ? DH had a big lump on the side of his knee, GP said it was a ganglion, but it turned out to be where he had split the cartilige and was trapping fluid in it.

its ontop of his knee cap, he thought it was housemaids knee or bursitus at first, but the gp said Lipoma.
