Toenail surgery

I've got an appointment with minor ops at the GP in a couple of weeks to remove part of my toenail on my big toe to treat an ingrown toenail on both sides. Does anyone know what to expect from the procedure and recovery? Will I be given local anaesthetic for it? Also, will I be able to walk on it and wear shoes in order to get the bus home or will I have to have someone give me a lift home? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Local anaesthetic, which was apparently quite painful in it's own right. You will be able to walk, but you will need some big roomy light shoes for the bad foot, there will probably be a big dressing. My DD got some very light toeless sandals with a very accommodating strap to wear.
