FINALLY - we know what's wrong with DH & it's kinda what I said in the first place

DH has been ill with chest infections a lot over the last year or so averaging a ourse of A/B's a month plus 3 lots of steriods a year (on top of his asthma stuff)

We saw a private specialist in December & he referred us the the chest defense clinic at Papworth

He had tests 3 weeks ago & we saw the consultant today - it went really well (apart from the Dr ignoring everything I said & DH having to repeat it)

But he has had some inoculations, and there is an antibody to Pneumonia 14 (or something) that he is very low in & he will always get this infection

But basically there is this really nasty bug which lives in the cells of the lung & causes chest infections

He has to have 2 weeks of A/B (really strong ones) everytime he gets an infection (keep them in the cupboard just in case) and over 18m to 2 yrs he will gradually get better

This bug isn't always grown when he gives a sample as it's funny like that

Well - my mum & I have said for the last year - that he had a bug & the A/B's never cleared it - so we were right

please stock up on acidopholus, consider acupuncture

I had a serious chest infection 2 years ago ... 2 courses of an antibiotic the doctor referred to as 'chemical bleach' after 4 other failed courses

took me a good year to recover

am glad you finally have an answer and will get the proper treatment for him, there is nothing worse than he not knowing

mylovelymonster · 25/03/2008 19:12
