We've been to the doctors this morning who has confirmed that dd(2.5) has a bug, She started vomiting a couple of days ago, has diahorrea today but the vomiting seems to have stopped. Today she managed to eat a couple of slices of toast (and is taking water), but she is zonked and has spent nearly all yesterday and today in bed.
She has had the odd bug before but this once seems to have knocked her for six.

ime yes, my dc generally sleep most of the day when they are ill. Best to let them I think.

My DS1 has chicken pox - woke up at 8am, had the tiniest bit of toast, stayed awake for about an hour (to be bathed & calamine'd up) - been sleeping ever since.
Sleep is good I think.

My hugely energetic toddler (ok he's only 12 months, not 2.5, but same situation) has had various bugs for the last four months, but only twice has it knocked him for six. I couldnt believe the first time - he went from napping for no more than half an hour at a time to zonking out for most of the day, and the night too. I was really worried as he wasnt eating, but he took water and eventually milk then back to food after 3 or so days. The second time it happened was the other week, so I knew what to expect and he bounced back much quicker this time. Definately let them sleep, their little bodies need to recover

my 16 mo has just had a really nasty vomiting bug too. She only vomited for a couple of days and had one very nasty nappy, and was a bit feverish. But it absolutely knocked her for six. She usually bounces back from these things very quickly but this time she slept pretty much round the clock for 4 days solid. Then took the best part of a week to fully regain her strength, she couldn't sit and hold her head up for more than a couple of minutes at first. Then slowly progressed to crawling and walking again.

Hope your dd gets better soon, try not to worry. Just give her drinks and lots of cuddles There seem to be some horrid bugs around this winter!

Thanks all, that really has reassured me.
She's normally so energetic, she's like a different child.
We've recently been in contact with a close friend who now has chickenpox, so I suspect once this thing has cleared up that will be next on the list(or my 1 year old ds catching it)- what larks!
