Hi, anyone out there who has had this procedure. I’ve been sick with worry about what to expect.
TIA

Do you mean a flexible cystoscopy?

I've had one, you will be given some numbing gel first. I'm not going to say it's a pleasant experience, but it's uncomfortable rather than painful, and really isn't for very long.

Best of luck.

Yes@inigomontoyahwillcox .
Thank you, that has reassured me somewhat.

I had mine under general but felt ok afterwards.. Was warned may be sore when urinating for a couple of days afterwards but tbh I felt way better than before I had it!

OllyBJolly · 01/03/2024 17:29

Mine was totally fine. Didn't even find it that uncomfortable - the scope was in before I even noticed. No soreness afterwards.

Nursing staff were so caring and efficient. A breeze!

I’ve had one, I can’t say I even found it uncomfortable, it was over before I knew it, and the happy side effect of it was that it seemed to completely cure my persistent UTI’s.

The consultant explained that it does this sometimes, as it stretches the urethra allowing bacteria to be more easily flushed out when going to the loo.

I had one a couple of months ago and was so terrified I could barely speak on the drive there. And I can hand on heart say it was absolutely fine! A bit uncomfortable as it goes in but I found smears ten times worse, and it's quite interesting having a look at the inside of your bladder. I hope it goes well OP.

I had one last week; it stung briefly as the scope was introduced but once inside and coming out it was utterly painless and incredibly quick. The consenting process took much longer than the procedure!

Prydddan · 01/03/2024 17:41

I've had two, with no anasthetic.

Not painful. A bit uncomfortable as they insert the tube, but then no discomfort.

Good luck, I hope it goes well 🤞

Lucia573 · 01/03/2024 17:41

I’ve had one and was also terrified, but it was fine. Not really even uncomfortable. Better than a smear. I haven’t had a UTI since so interesting what previous poster said about that being a thing.

Thanks so much for your input everyone. I’ll sleep tonight now. 👍💕

I had one, procedure was fine, but I was sore for a few days.after took ibuprofen for pain. Good luck OP.

Lovemusic82 · 01/03/2024 19:10

I had one a few years ago. Out of all the places I have had cameras inserted it was the least unpleasant. It wasn’t painful just a little bit uncomfortable when they insert it. They fill you with water so afterwards you will need to go straight to the loo and do the biggest wee ever 😬. I had no pain after.

Tomorrowtomorrow77 · 12/03/2024 18:41

Can I ask if you can carry on as normal straight after?

yikesanotherbooboo · 12/03/2024 22:27

@Tomorrowtomorrow77 yes , back to normal activities straight away.

Tomorrowtomorrow77 · 12/03/2024 22:57

Thank you. I’m booked in for one as an evening appointment and wasn’t sure.

MassiveOvaryaction · 13/03/2024 10:44

I had mine under general so wasn't allowed to drive myself home and had to be supervised for 24 hours - no work/driving/looking after small children etc. Actually felt ok and no after effects from the anaesthetic but was happy with an extra day off!
