Nerve pain in left foot

Hi everyone I had L5 S1 lumbar fusion surgery done 5 months ago the surgery went well and I no longer have back pain however my left foot has nerve damage the pain in my big toe is so bad it’s like elastic band hitting it every few seconds worce on a night heat does not help at all I have to keep my foot in cold water through the night every 20 min I was put on gabapentine that didn’t help now on pregabalin wich blocks the pain some thing to do with the signal from my brain to my foot I’m on 100 mg three times a day these tablets are making me gain weight and headaches I don’t want to be on these but without these it’s unbearable pain had a nerve test done that showed nerve damage of the L5 nerve will my nerve ever heal please if anyone in my situation message on here

I can’t answer your question sorry, but it might be worth considering getting a cradle to keep the duvet/sheets off your foot (like the attached pic). Having something resting on it at night can often make it worse.
Some people find that applying capsaicin cream can help. The heat sensation takes your mind off the nerve pain somewhat, but is more tolerable.
Has anyone checked your B 12 levels? If they are low that can exacerbate neuropathic pain.
Theres an antidepressant called duloxetine that can help with certain types of neuropathic pain, and I believe can be used as an add on to pregabilin (though you might need to see a specialist to recommend this). Can you get referred to a pain clinic op? Good luck.

Thank you so much for your reply yes I have had my b12 checked it’s as it should be I also take vitamin d complex just incase and magnesium but nothing helps I can’t even shower with the heat of the water also had nerve root injection through ct for the pain but didn’t work it’s making me so depressed
