Anal lump - worried

I'm probably way overthinking this!

I have been having some toilet issues for a few weeks now. Quite sore on wiping. It stings when I wee. No change in the consistency of bowel movements. No change in frequency (I'm quite frequent - twice daily, always have been).

I felt on wiping that something was amiss. Upon looking I have a pea sized lump at the top of my anus (12 o'clock position). It is skin coloured, not reducible and cannot be pushed inside. My perianal skin is swollen, red and so sore. There is a patch where it is weepy and I suspect that's what's stinging.

I also have a strip of red sore chapped skin at either side in my bikini area.

My anus is sore on wiping and stings/ burns pretty much all the time now. There has been some fresh red on wiping.

This lump was not there two weeks ago.

I'm not on any antibiotics (which always cause me thrush). Nothing else has changed in terms of diet or topical treatment.

I have a family history of rectal and bowel cancer so I'm a little worried!

Of course I will be phoning my GP but I might not get seen for weeks!

Try just putting some savlon or equivalent on it, might just be a tiny infection, I sometimes get a bit sore but clears up pretty instantly with a bit of antibacterial or even just some soothing hand cream. Also the lump could be piles.

Teasie123 · 27/02/2024 19:07

@deflatedbirthday , could it be a pile?

SallyWD · 27/02/2024 19:15

Good be a pile or an anal skin tag perhaps

Lumiodes · 27/02/2024 19:35

The lump could easily be a pile. Fresh blood could be a fissure or split - it happens to me a lot, it eventually heals.

Wash regularly and put a bit of barrier cream (such as Sudocrem) on the red sore bit and it will probably go away in a couple of days. Obviously still see your GP.

ShrubRose · 27/02/2024 19:43

Would you consider going to an Urgent Treatment Centre? I probably would because I tend to get nervous about health issues.

You want to keep the area as clean as possible. Savlon or Sudocreme is a good idea. That part of the body is unclean by nature and if there is fresh red blood then the skin has broken. The last thing you want is an infection.

I'm not sure on the haemorrhoids front. It doesn't look like a pile. It's more on the outside above my anus if that makes sense.

It's so so so sore. I'm dreading going to the toilet. It's hurts when I wee and it hurts to poo 😩.

Make sure that when you ring for a GP appointment you tell them you're worrying about cancer because you have a family history. Ask for an urgent appointment. At my GP they generally ring within an hour or so, and invite people to go in if they feel they need to see them. Hopefully yours will do something similar 💪

Could it be an abscess?

PeppyC · 27/02/2024 21:21

Sounds like either an infection/abscess or possibly a fissure - sometimes you get a small lump associated with the tear.

If it’s weeping and painful you need to get to doctor soon and get antibiotics/antiviral treatment and/or referral to hospital.
