Infected toe?

Yesterday one side of my big toe, next to the side of the nail, was red and felt sore. This has happened to me before. The first time was a year ago, then reoccurred every 6 months or so.

However this morning a fair amount of runny pus came out from the side of the nail bed! 😷This has never happened to me before. How can I treat this/stop it from reoccurring - what is causing this to happen?

I get my toe nails painted at the salon, but the last time was 5 weeks ago. I haven’t used any new footwear - could it be nasties residing in old footwear? I don’t think my nails are ingrown. I have spent a lot of time travelling and being at different hotels recently so wonder its due to not having access to my usual facilities/toiletries/hygiene routine

You probably have a nail spear that happens when you leave a sliver of nail when trimming, it digs into the side of the toe and is very painful!

You can DIY it - you need to remove the little piece of nail left but it is painful as it will be in the swollen sore bit. Then stick some savlon on.

Or pop yourself to a podiatrist and they can remove it for you.
