I have been suffering with reoccurring mastitis for the last few years in one breast.
I am not breast feeding or pregnant nor have I been through all the episodes.
Anyway, early January I got another case of mastitis. Due to commitments I had, I was unable to get antibiotics for around 6 days. Once I had them the pain intensified and a massive lump was growing. The mastitis had now turned into an abscess. I was referred to the breast surgery team in 2 days time. In which time the abscess had doubled in size and burst. By the time I seen them it was still very infected so they gave me more antibiotics before I had a scan.
Fast forward 6 weeks… I’m on my 5th week long course of antibiotics and still no scan.
I had 4 weeks of antibiotics consistently (different ones) 5 days off… however in them 5 days the abscess grew back rapidly and has re-burst again. Que another course of antibiotics ðŸ«
I have had hospital appointments every week which has been a nightmare.
I finally got a scan date for tomorrow, with an appointment for Wednesday for the results. However, the scan had been cancelled and put back and yet they still want me to go in Wednesday (for nothing) currently got 3 days of antibiotics left and can very clearly see the infection I’ve very much there be in the abscess is internal only now and not causing pain.
Will this mean I have to wait again for the scan? I am really concerned about this being inflammatory breast cancer especially with how aggressive this infection clearly is…
Is it normal to have to wait this long for anything to be done other than a quick feel of the boob?
Does anyone have any experience with this and can help??
I worried, in pain most of the time and just plain fed up.
