Strange bowel movements?

Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar that didn’t turn out to be something sinister? I’ve got a 9 month old baby and really anxious that something terrible is wrong.

Basically since November 23 I have had 2 bouts of weird bowel movements. Both occasions I was woke up early in the morning with really bad cramping and the urge to go the toilet. Both occasions my bowel movement started off normal but I had to strain a little bit and then they ended up with diarrhea (TMI sorry). Both occasions I have felt really light headed during and the stomach cramps have lasted a day or so beyond. The stomach cramps almost feel like a pulling sensation as the day goes on.

The weird part is that also on both occasions, hours after the morning bowel movement, my stool following has had blood in it. The blood/stool is mucousy but not diarrhea.

On both occasions I was taking iron tablets and I’m now wondering if it’s something to do with that? I was advised both times to visit A&E and the 2nd time (yesterday), they took it a bit more serious and agreed to do a referral for an endoscopy and colonoscopy, however this can take up to 4 weeks. After the first incident I was advised to go back to my GP and do some stool tests, which I did and all come back negative.

I’m just wondering if anyone has experienced similar at all and what it was? I have really bad health anxiety which has only gotten worse since the birth of my DS and I really don’t want to google (as you can imagine).

Thanks!

Yes!
I have to the doctors today and sent off a FIT test that has been requested to check for blood in stool.
I have blood in my stools quite often since having my babies but it's on and off, I've put it down to the births and the pressure as it was hard to go to the toilet afterwards for a while.
My youngest is two now and my bowel movements have changed for the past six months or so! Really loose fs sorry tmi.
Going a lot more and pain just below my jeans when pressing / applying pressure.
Dr today says most likely IBS
I'm worried too but it sounds like you have similar symptoms .. still best to get it checked out .. doctor also mentioned it can be due to stress? Are you stressed? Flowers

Is your blood bright red or dark? Sorry, it's just I know if the stool is black / tar like or dark red that's a warning sign
Bright red is most likely a tear externally
I've done loads of research today such a coincidence I've seen this after my appt this morning
Hope you're ok, I have health anxiety too x

Maybaby1994 · 19/02/2024 20:40

@Dolly567 it's definitely not black/tar like! I'd say more bright red than dark red too but it's hard to tell, I don't really want to stare at it too long for anxiety reasons!

Yes I have had two FIT stool tests done in November and January, both negative and the other stool tests where too so I suppose that's a good sign?

I've been a lot more stressed ever since my son was born due to heightened health anxiety.

Did you get cramping etc too?

That's good that they were negative :)
So you have no internal bleeding
It could be an external tear due to straining, I don't get cramping but I did get that around 15 years ago when I had lactose intolerance
I noticed my pain when I was jumping on the trampoline with my son, like a pulling sensation really strange
I said to the go after having kids it's hard to tell what's normal anymore!
But she said she thinks it's IBS but also requested the fit test and blood tests.
Could be inflammation / IBS , stress all sorts of things she said are more likely :) x

If you have had two negative fit tests this shows that the blood is not coming from your bowels, the bleeding sounds like a fissure (a tear or cut in the anus or rectum,) or maybe internal piles, probably due to the nature of the strange bowel movement irritating the anus. Have you had a blood test? If this shows you are not anemic then that coupled with your negative fit tests is now NICE guidelines for no further investigation for cancer - I assume that's what you mean when you say sinister.

Maybaby1994 · 19/02/2024 21:34

@Nogodsnomasters yes 2 negative FIT tests and I am not anaemic but my recent blood tests showed that my ferritin was on the lower end of normal (it was 30). This is why I'm anxious and googling just takes you down an even deeper rabbit hole.

I had blood and mucus in my stool after I had my DC, FIT tests came back negative, to cut a long story short I ended up going for a colonoscopy which showed I had inflammation in my bowel and was diagnosed with IBD, which to be honest felt like a much lesser evil than where my mind was going! All is now under control with medication.

Definitely don’t ask Dr.Google, there is a whole host of non-sinister things it could be and the colonoscopy should give you all the answers you need. 💐
