So I had a tooth out last year and since then the tooth next to it has been really sensitive. Made sense I thought, it’s more exposed etc might be a bit unsettled from the extraction of the other tooth…

Then I fell pregnant and my teeth always go to shit during pregnancy. The sensitivity was unbearable and wasn’t just when I was eating etc. I went to the dentist who told me it was probably pregnancy and prescribed me Duraphat 5000 which I used throughout my pregnancy and until about 4 weeks ago. I had zero sensitivity in the tooth when using this.

i ran out about 4 weeks ago and the sensitivity didn’t return, brilliant I thought! It must of been a pregnancy thing.

For about a week now I’ve been having what I would describe as mild toothache. It isn’t excruciating (like I’ve had in the past) but enough to need to take painkillers regularly.

i saw a dentist Thursday who said the tooth looked fine and nothing showed on X-rays. She said she thought it was either sensitivity and I need to use Duraphat again or that the tooth nerve was starting to die and wasn’t showing on an X-ray yet… she said this would become more painful and would throb/stop me sleeping etc.

she said as she wasn’t sure which one of these things it was she didn’t want to do anything irreversible like root canal or extraction until she was sure. I was sent away with more Duraphat and told to watch and wait.

Here I am now 8 days since the pain started. I’m having to alternate ibruprofen and paracetamol every 2 hours. The pain isn’t unbearable but it does hurt. Duraphat doesn’t seem to have had any effect.

Strange thing though it actually goes when I lay down?? Everything I’ve seen online says toothache flares up more when lay down so I don’t understand this.

anyone had anything similar or any dentists etc that can advise? I feel like if I go back to the dentist too soon she still won’t know what’s wrong and send me away again.
