Hi,

How does IBS get diagnosed? it is a condition attached say if everything like gynae issues come back clear. I'm due to have a hysteroscopy and I remember from my gynae appointment they mentioned they might look at the bowel due to where I was complaining about on my tummy.

I had a episode middle of the night, cramps only settled by sitting on a toilet and taking a painkiller. Completely fine this morning. I'm thought I'd had a good day's eating - lunch was a microwave pouch of Uncle Ben's vegetable rice (cooked correct, pouch in good condition but ultimately put in one of those keep warm flasks) and then for tea had wholemeal pasta which is new to me as must say I use to have white. Reading the nhs info I did struggle to urinate yesterday and felt early evening as if there was a bowling ball in my stomach (put down to my gynae prob) and for some weeks prior to this I've had the opposite of occasional constipation through the week. Never been sick though.

I did have breakthrough light period bleeding start of week even though I'm on the pill - I just put that down to a pretty violent cough not helping after I've had after a sore throat.

I think it's just diagnosed through symptoms if they've ruled everything else out. It's useful to keep a diary of what you've eaten and then any symptoms and when you go to the toilet as you might be able to work out what's triggering it.
Have you had an utlrasound to check for fibroids as that can affect your bowels. But eating rice that's been kept warm is also a big no-go!

Many thanks for replying I really appreciate it, oh god I did think the rice was a bit odd and not quite how I remembered it. Years ago I had a mishap with an Uncle Bens pouch years ago back when they did risotto, my lovely cat at the time had clawed at it before use, though that did make me throw up for my stupidity back then.

The microwave rice should be fine if you cook it and eat it straight away but there's a bacteria that can grow in rice when it's kept warm so I wouldn't heat it up and then store in a thermos (often why people get ill from takeaways).
