Taken Clarithromycin & finished a week ago for a throat infection, had tummy problems while taking them but this week I’ve had bleeding bright red blood out backside for a few days filling the loo and includes a few small clots. I’m on holiday so can’t easily access a doctor but back in U.K. next week.

Just panicking really but have read antibiotics may be the culprit. had bleeding a couple of years ago, was never examined doctor said was piles over the phone and didn’t do anything except advise to buy otc stuff. Never had it for days though.
How much should I be panicking?!

I've had clarithromycin and never had that.

What does the leaflet say?

I'm not sure about the clarithromycin but when I had rectal bleeding I spoke with GP and they were happy for me to watch and wait, unless more than a mug full at a time. Happened again and was given a fit test and when that was positive referred for colonoscopy.

Even a tiny drop in the toilet bowl looks like loads so I know how frightening it is.

I'd probably wait it out until I came home in your position but if you're bleeding a lot/too worried to enjoy your holiday I'd speak to your travel insurance and see what they suggest.

Thanks. I think I will wait until next week to see dr because of the hassle involved in seeing one where I am and not sure they’ll be able to help that much given I’m back next week anyway. I am worried.

Good point about one door of blood looking like a lot.
