Sudden reflux

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone can relate to what's happening. I'm not pregnant and developed fairly abrupt heart burn/reflux out of absolute nowhere a week ago. I'm also burping all the time, often acid burps. It's unrelenting and I'm baffled by it. Antacid chews don't touch it. Oddly it feels better at night when I'm laying down. I wake up feeling like I might be okay and then it soon starts and doesn't really stop unless I'm actively eating and around bed time. I've tried continuing my usual diet and I've tried "safe foods". I seem to feel worse when I'm eating the reflux friendly diet.

It seems like the general rule is to see a doctor if it doesn't improve in two weeks. Has anyone ever had this daily for this long? Could it be stress? GERD seems to involve off days and I haven't had an off day no matter what I'm eating.

I'm tempted to blame anything on stress. I do have extraordinary anxiety issues but it's never affected me in this way before. I really don't want to do hardcore over the counter medications but diet isn't working. Exercise isn't working. I was just wondering if anyone with experience can recommend anything in the interim until I have an appointment. I would expect a GERD disorder to be more gradual than this .
Thank you very much!

Please see your GP. I've had it for years but at the beginning was thoroughly checked over

I know you've said antacid chews don't work but have pu tried Gaviscon liquid?

Gerd isn’t gradual. I just got it out of the blue and 18 months on I’m still battling it! I’ve been thoroughly checked over though and I also had h pylori (although being treated for it didn’t massively help).
I advise a low acid diet like Acid Watcher or Dropping Acid - you may feel worse at first as tye irritation ‘heals’ - unfortunately it can take a while to work, 28 days is a misnomer.
Also use of gaviscon advance is recommended. Above all, see your GP.

I think I developed this suddenly about 10 years ago after a terrible cold and flu virus (not named of course) and its fluctuated in severity ever since. Im on the waiting list to have some camera down me as Im worried about the damage the acid might do, mine is more silent reflux, dont get the heart burn.

I was misdiagnosed for many years with asthma because of the wheezing in my throat and cough which comes with GERD (still dont have an actual diagnosis of GERD though)

I would strongly suggest you go the gp for a check up. It could be nothing but it could be something serious.

Get some Nexium, it's very good and the same sort of stuff as the GP will prescribe (not saying don't go to the GP).
