What the hell is wrong with me and what do I do about it?

My mum died 3 years ago, the last year of her life was really hard and I was exhausted. Have not felt like my old self since, and have caught lots of bugs over the last few winters. This year I got something in September that felt like covid, but tested negative, then got Covid in October, followed by a chest infection then flu. Couldnt have any of my jabs because I was ill each time they came up. I ended up signed off work. It has now been 3 months of really low energy, not able to do things I used to not think twice about. Like, if I have to vacuum the living room, I have to take a break during it - I used to clean the whole house in one go. The doctors are not stunningly helpful - they want to refer me to the sleep apnoea clinic and dont seem to be interested in the fact this has all happened after a string of illnesses. Any ideas what is going on? And what I can do? I have been looking at the finger prick blood tests to see if it can shed light - have had bloods done by the doctors, but I dont know how much confidence I have in them.

Have you had your Vit D levels checked?

DustyLee123 · 12/02/2024 21:30

How old are you?
Did they check B12, thyroid and iron?
What supplements do you take?

It sounds a bit like ME but hopefully if you rest up and don’t push yourself you will recover without getting full blown ME iyswim.
Do take a good quality vitamin like solgar v2000 that has vit d, zinc etc in it.

Hi. I'm sorry to hear about your mum and the illnesses you have had since. I would imagine after that many illnesses you may have some post viral fatigue or you could have long covid. I had long covid for about 6 months and I was so scared as like you said I couldn't physically do things that I would usually do. I also was having a whole host of symptoms like vertigo, panic attacks, breathlessness and may more.I found a long covid Facebook group and tried different things and I eventually improved. I lost my mum as a young adult and that can also of course have a physical effect on you causing anxiety and depression. I think your body holds on to the the pain and grief. I hope you find your path to recovery. It seems to be different for everyone. Make sure they do tests for iron and vitamin levels too.

Thank you everyone - I have done a lot of researching based on these suggestions, and will be speaking to the GP again. I appreciate all your support.
