Really gross snot question!

I've had a cold the last few days, all head based, loads of clear snot, congestion, sinuses feeling full/pressurey etc.

Today, I had the urge to blow and I filled up four tissues with green snot from the left side, absolutely filled, tons of it... then back to clear.

Ten minutes later, the right side needed a blow - filled up another five tissues with bright YELLOW snot (and a very different consistency!) from the right side.

Then back to clear.

What the actual fuck just happened, I have never experienced this before, where the hell did this volume of stuff come from, where has it been hiding this whole time? Do I have two different bacterial infections, one in each side of my face?

So so bizarre so gross as it is, I wondered if anyone knew what was going on!

Sinusitis. I am suffering with it right now
The snot will be backed up in your sinuses and they can hold a lot and keep on producing it.
GP said no antibiotics to me as 'it's a virus' and gave emergency a Steroid nasal spray

The right and the left side are not separate so the mucus can pass from one side to the other so just one infection fortunately

I had the most horrific sinus infection last year and the stuff that came out of my nose belonged in some sci-fi film. Some days it was neon green, other days it was bright yellow and it was constant. I could fill 10 tissues in one go full of the stuff.
My whole head and face throbbed for weeks.

I hope you feel better soon!

Mmm my sinuses do feel odd/pressurey/sore... its just the two totally different colours/sides thing that was really freaky! Also one side was really liquid, the other side super sticky! Bizarre stuff!

I had nooo idea until today, just HOW much liquid there can be in a humans face! So so gross!

I actually googled today 'how is it possible to have this much snot' 😅 so I'm right there with you. I can just FILL tissue upon tissue. Then 10 mins later - same again. It's bright green and thick, one day was full of blood every time.
I can't relate to the change of colour from each nostril but I agree with pp, it's all the same stuff coming from same place (have you ever tried switching from left to right side when lay in bed with a blocked nose? You can feel it swap sides!)
Mine is definitely a sinus issue at this point as I've had the tell tale toothache.
Hopefully clears up soon for us both.

It's not come back so far, back to clear snot ever since that 20 minute period - was sat upright at my desk (trying to work!) at the time, very weird!

Sinuses still feel odd and some nose blows have resulted in pain around tooth roots, mm.. hopefully its a sign whatever it was ive had the last few days is clearing up and im getting rid of the grot!

I did wonder if its related to using a squirty up the nose decongestant spray before bed each night. I don't normally but this is the first cold I've had since starting to use a CPAP mask and I really cannot handle not being able to breath through my nose as it means a night without the mask on (or waking up with my gob open and bone dry which is awful!).

Must confess, I also googled that and also 'how much snot can your sinuses actually contain' too, before I came to the oracle that is MN!
