Lumps on gum

I had two small lumps appear on my outer lower gums over the last year or so. They are hard lumps I had initially thought they were teeth under the gums. I went to the dentist in October for my routine checkup and he took photos, X-rays and did a head X-ray and said he was going to refer me to maxilliofacial dept at hospital. I got a text around Christmas time from the hospital saying sorry about the wait and to let them know if appointment still required which I did so I’m still on a waiting list. One lump has now pretty much doubled in size over the last week and I can feel ridges on it, it’s not painful although is a little sore at times. Any ideas what this could be and will it just keep growing?
I have my next routine dentist appointment in April so will ask dentist about it then again

Please get another urgent dental appointment. It may be innocent but through experience it could be something more sinister. Take care.

But the dentist has already said I need referring to hospital for it to be checked and has done that so what more could the dentist actually do?

He could a bullet behind the maxilliofacial department. As an old NHS nurse I am a little concerned.

Thanks I will perhaps try giving the hospital a call on Monday and see what they say about where I am on list and if i get no joy will make dentists appointment. Would it be best to go dentist rather than gp do you think? The nhs website says it’s on average a 17 week wait for 9 out of 10 patients for that dept at that hospital and I’m 17 weeks on Tuesday but don’t even have an appointment yet, I’ve just noticed there’s another lump appear of front of lower gum as well

If you have a good GP it may be a good idea to go there. It may be worthwhile to ring the hospital and also give them an update. Good luck!

I think I’m going to go gp in monday morning it’s been really painful and kept me awake and notice another one had appeared at front of gums

i went to the docs she thinks it bony lumps also found more I hadn’t even noticed and has said really need to be seen by a specialist so to get the dentist who made original referral to chase up. Have now phoned dentist they are going to try and sort and see will phone back and update today

The dentist said to phone the hospital and check where I am on wait list which I’ve done, referal was received oct and they still haven’t sent out appointments for referrals received last July so I have a way to go. Dentist said to phone back if it was a long wait and they’ll get me in to look at and decide if it needs to go as a two week

Your dentist needs to refer you on the two-week pathway and say the scary word in the referral.

I’m going in Friday for dentist to have a look at and decide if they think they should refer me on 2 week. I could have gone tomorro to see them but am working

I’ve finally got my appointment through for hospital for this coming Saturday
